Much has happened in the last 8 months...The 300 came out on DVD. We moved, I changed jobs twice...(sort of) Cale got engaged...Congratulations Cale & Laura.

Last weekend I spent 45 minutes waiting for Half-Price books to go through 9 (nine) boxes of fantasy and sci-fi books. This has been my 3rd shipment there. I noticed each time - regardless of quantity or quality, they offer me $99. I thought it a strange coincidence, but then again I was to busy buying new books to put towards my new balance.

Kim and I wound up walking out $60 poorer (spending $160) but got some minor x-mas shopping done. I also walked out with some Fritz Leiber and finally got Foucat's Pendulum by Ecco - long recommended by Cale.

If anyone is looking for a good new fantasy writer try Joe Abercrombie's "The Blade Itself." Great characters. For truely awesome writing of course, read Fritz Lieber's Lankmar series.

I am bored and looking for something to obsessively pursue. any suggestions?

Today I Discovered:

1. "Extinction Vortex" an economic model in which animals placed on the endangered species list more rapidly become extinct because their poaching value skyrockets.

2. I underestimated the visual/written metaphor. I would even go so far as to say it's the fundamental building block of all communication, humor, wisdom even yes...conciousness.

3. Knasty Mike has the coolest blog ever, and I must produce a techno song to honor him.

Today I Learned:

1. A dads face is the preferred medium for drawing with washable markers.

2. Place-based blogging. Basically, your post is geocoded to where your GPS enabled cellphone is at the time (or you designate the place). When others approach that place, they'd get something like "The food here is great" or "The farm animal's here are really pliable here." Socialight.com

3. MACs crash just as often as PCs. Though its due to emotional, not technical, problems.

Today I Discovered:

1. A subliminal, non-confrontational way to manipulate people into doing what you want is to advise them what "you" would do in "their" position. Of course, if I were the one reading this I'd think it was obviouse.

2. A part of one of my illustrations is being used as a teaser for a White Wolf product: SCION

3. I will soon be artmonkey to Unipixel, a company that developes fabric-like displays 12X more energy efficient, with 3X the resolution of current LCDs. I broached the subject of using the technology to cloak Klingon Birds of Prey, they are pursuing that angle through a government contract. Unipixel.com

1. Babies will stoop to great depths of guile to wipe their noses on you...
2. The first 16 quibit quantum computer was released this week Dwavesys.com
3. It is Valentines day and I am a moron.
